Update: Brackets annouced
It has now been two years, since Gera decided to support the European Warcraft 3 scene with his continuous Sunday Cup. We now reach triple digit!
Gera Cup started from humble beginnings and has later turned itself into the most known tournament in Europe and while some cups have come and gone - you would always be sure that Sunday means Gera Cup.
There has been a lot of great storylines and the cup has helped further develop bright talents, but also given us entertaining matches.
Gera Cup will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 11-12. March and this time, it will include a record high price pool. Some of the best European and Korean players will join and we encourage people to watch the tournament and cheer for their favourite player.
It has been 2 years with Gera Cup and the history of the cup is filled with stories and encounters from the best of the best.
Let us look at some statistics for the cup:
Still as this day, WarchiefRich is leading the board. Happy is slowly catching up.
Happy is currently a player that has been dominating the recent Gera Cups. His ratio of cups participating and gold medals won is impressive. The Russian undead has quickly gotten on board and shown incredible skills after his return to Warcraft 3.
Strongest race in Gera Cup:
With both Foggy and WarchiefRich in front, it should not be a surprise to see Night Elf in front. The early Gera Cups were dominated by a majority of Night Elves and only few players such as Hawk and Cash have held the banner for each of their race. Now with the Koreans entering the fray - the winning races have been more mixed. This is a welcoming view after many months with Night Elf dominance.
With the humble beginnings of Gera Cup, it is no secret that Europe has a capacity in producing great Night Elves player. WarchiefRich is the most winning player and his accomplishments are inevitable and his legacy has put him as the King of Gera Cup.
Foggy is currently the queen of Gera Cup, but don't get too comfortable there!
But who is the queen? There is no question that the rivalry between Hawk and Foggy has intensified throughout the years. The two have fought hard over being the queen. The race is still on for the two, but currently we can conclude Foggy has raced past Hawk in their duel. The two players are still fighting hard for the British heart. But should they both be worried about Happy?
The undead curse was for a long time a reality in the history of Gera Cup. The scourge did not manage to crack the nut for almost 1 and a half year. The race was very close at lifting the trophy in numerous attempts, but it was not enough.
It did happen. The devil himself, Lucifer, would be the first of few Undeads winning the weekly cup. The praise was immense for the Korean and he together with Russian undead Happy exchanged holding the Undead banner to show, that is possible to win the tournament with UD.
There is no question, that the importance for Gera Cup has reunited the European scene, when it was most needed. Many European players have grown into players, that can compete worldwide! The importance of Gera Cup is immense and without it, nobody would have known what would have happened with European Warcraft 3. Would we be able to compete against the Chinese and Koreans without a proper tournament to participate in? I do not think so.
So, get ready to witness the biggest Gera Cup ever announced!
