Cyberathlete Professional League or CPL was founded in 1997 as one of the world first eSports competitions. In its decade long existence, CPL organization held more than 60 events all over the world, hosting over 600 players and giving away some 3 million dollars in prize money.
Together with ESWC and WCG, CPL formed the backbone of eSports industry. It began to decline in 2006, though and was officially announced out of business in March 2008.
After three years of silence, CPL is back with a tournament featuring Warcraft 3 and DotA, and over $20,000 in prize money.
For Warcraft 3, twelve players will be picked through an online qualification tournament, which is already running and will continue until July 17th.

These players will then get together from August 5th to 9th, in Shenyang, China for the main event, where $6,900 is up for grabs.
